Free calculators for builders.

Cost, materials, steel and EMI, on your phone.

Quick numbers for builders, contractors and people building a home. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Each tool shows the formula it uses, so you can check it.

Tool 1

Construction cost estimator

Built-up area × rate per sq ft, split into the main stages of work.

Quality level

Default rates (Basic ₹1,900, Standard ₹2,300, Premium ₹2,900 per sq ft) are indicative assumptions for a house in Tamil Nadu. They are not market rates. Rates change with city, soil, design, materials and labour, so type in your own.

Formula and assumptions
  • Cost = Area × Rate
  • Each stage = cost × its share. The shares are typical for a framed RCC house and are assumptions, not fixed.
  • Not included: land, approvals and fees, compound wall, sump, interiors, GST, architect or engineer fees.

Tool 2

Cement, sand and aggregate for concrete

Enter the wet volume of concrete and the mix. Get cement bags, sand and coarse aggregate.

Formula and assumptions
  • Dry volume = Wet volume × 1.54 (allows for voids and shrinkage)
  • Mix 1 : s : a. Each part = dry volume × its share of (1 + s + a).
  • Cement bags = cement m³ × 1440 kg/m³ ÷ 50 kg, so 1 bag ≈ 0.0347 m³
  • 1 m³ = 35.315 cft. Wastage is added on top.
  • Nominal mixes by volume. For M25 and above, IS 456 recommends a design mix from a lab, so 1:1:2 is only a rough guide.

Tool 3

Bricks and mortar for a wall

Wall length × height × thickness. Get the number of bricks, plus cement and sand for the mortar.

Formula and assumptions
  • Wall volume = L × H × T. Deduct doors and windows yourself by reducing the length.
  • Bricks = Wall volume ÷ (l + j)(b + j)(h + j), then wastage is added and rounded up.
  • Wet mortar = Wall volume − bricks (before wastage) × l × b × h
  • Dry mortar = Wet mortar × 1.33, split by the mix (cement 1 : sand n).
  • Cement: 1440 kg/m³, 50 kg bag. 1 m³ = 35.315 cft.

Tool 4

Steel weight calculator

Weight of TMT bars from the diameter, length and number of bars.

Formula and assumptions
  • Weight per metre = D² ÷ 162 kg (D in mm)
  • From steel density 7850 kg/m³: π/4 × D² × 7850 ÷ 10⁶ = D² ÷ 162.2
  • Actual bar weights can vary within the tolerance allowed by IS 1786.

Tool 5

Home loan EMI calculator

Loan amount, interest rate and tenure give your monthly EMI and the total you pay.

Use the rate your bank offers you. The default is only an example.

Formula and assumptions
  • EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1)
  • P = loan amount, r = yearly rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100, n = tenure in months.
  • Fixed rate for the whole tenure. Processing fees, insurance and rate changes are not included.

Monthly EMI

—Total interest
—Total payment
—Interest share
